Getting Started with ZipID: What Implementation Actually Involves

"Implementation" is a word that scares buyers, because with most enterprise software it means a project: a statement of work, an onboarding team, weeks of configuration, and training for everyone who touches the system. ZipID was built so the answer to "how hard is it to start?" is you can run your first I‑9 today. Here is exactly what happens.

The short version

There is no implementation project

You create an account and can process an I‑9 immediately. No setup fee, no configuration phase, no required training. The workflow guides both the employer and the new hire through every step, so a first-time user with no I‑9 background can complete a compliant form without help.

Step by step

What happens, for the employer

  1. Create your account

Sign up and you have full platform access right away.

  2. Invite a new hire

From the dashboard, send the new hire an invitation on any device. Nothing to install.

  3. The new hire completes Section 1

They photograph their ID, OCR extracts the data and autofills the form, and guided ID selection ensures the right List A or List B and C documents.

  4. Identity is verified

On the biometric plan, the new hire takes a live selfie matched 1:1 to the ID photo, with liveness detection, producing a confidence score.

  5. You review and complete Section 2

The employer examines the documents and signs. The whole process runs under eight minutes end to end.

  6. E-Verify and audit trail

ZipID redirects to E-Verify and auto-populates the case data into the I‑9's Additional Information field, and every action is logged in a searchable audit trail.

Multiple locations or teams?

Adding locations is a settings change

ZipID gives HR real-time visibility across every user and location from one dashboard, with staff permissions and an audit log searchable by employee, HR user, location, and date. Adding locations or users is a settings change, not a new implementation.

What about integration?

Optional, not a prerequisite

For most employers, no integration is needed — ZipID runs standalone in the browser. For platforms and high-volume employers, API integration is available on the Enterprise tier to connect ZipID to an HRIS, ATS, or background-screening system. That is an option, not a prerequisite, and the only path that involves technical work.

If a vendor's honest answer to "how long until we're live?" is measured in weeks, that is a different product. With ZipID the answer is measured in minutes.
