E-Verify Checks the Numbers. ZipID Checks the Person.

The two are not the same thing, and the difference is where employer liability actually lives.

E-Verify compares the information on a completed Form I-9 against federal records and returns an answer about whether that identity is authorized to work. It is a records check, and it is a good one.

What it does not do, and was never designed to do, is confirm that the person who handed you the documents is the person those records describe. An authentic Social Security number belonging to someone else will clear E-Verify. So will a real document presented by the wrong face.

That is the gap ZipID closes, and it sits upstream of E-Verify rather than replacing it. A live biometric face match against the presented document, with liveness detection, before the record is ever created. E-Verify then does its job on data you have reason to trust.
